„Metzgersteig is exactly what I imagine an uncomplicated Salzburg inn right in the Old Town to be. Hearty Austrian cuisine, genuine butchery craftsmanship and a location that could hardly be more central. My highlight is without a doubt the large beer garden right on Alten Markt. Especially in summer, it's wonderful to sit outside, have a bite to eat, drink a beer and watch the bustle of the Old Town. I also love the combination of classic inn and standing bar: you can sit down comfortably or simply grab a quick bite to take away. For me, a truly lovely spot for Austrian cuisine in the heart of Salzburg."

In the heart of Salzburg's Old Town lies Metzgersteig am Alten Markt. Run by the Bankhammer family, the inn combines traditional Austrian cuisine with genuine butchery craftsmanship and one of the most central locations in the city. On the first floor of the historic townhouse at Alter Markt 2, the classic inn awaits. The menu features Austrian specialities and typical butcher's fare – from hearty pork knuckle to schnitzel and burgers, all the way to sweet classics. Right next door at Alter Markt 1 is the standing bar (Stehausschank), where you'll find deli goods, rolls, spreads, pretzels and the pork knuckle roll to take away or enjoy in the beer garden. And that beer garden is one of the highlights for me: sitting outside right on Alten Markt, watching the bustle of Salzburg's Old Town while enjoying hearty, down-to-earth food. Thanks to its location just a few steps from Getreidegasse and Residenzplatz, Metzgersteig is ideal for both locals and visitors looking for classic Austrian inn cuisine in a central location.

For me, exactly the kind of food that goes with Metzgersteig and a cool beer in the beer garden on Alten Markt."
