Honest Conclusion
„What I particularly like about Wastlwirt is its combination of traditional Salzburg tavern culture and a kitchen that's willing to try something different. Alongside familiar Austrian classics, you'll find creative dishes that add variety to the menu. The beautiful beer garden beneath the chestnut trees is another highlight, especially during the warmer months. For me, a great example of how Austrian cuisine can stay true to its roots while still offering something unexpected."

About Gasthof Wastlwirt
A traditional Salzburg inn with history and fresh ideas: Gasthof Wastlwirt dates back to 1939. Since late 2019, Max Altweger has been running the restaurant in Salzburg's Maxglan district, combining classic Austrian cuisine with creative modern touches. The menu offers comforting Austrian favourites alongside imaginative interpretations.
From crispy fried chicken and Wiener Schnitzel to beef tartare and seasonal specialities, the kitchen embraces tradition while adding its own distinctive character. One of the restaurant's highlights is its spacious, shaded beer garden beneath mature chestnut trees, offering around 100 seats. It's a welcoming place to spend a relaxed afternoon or evening with friends and family.
Four separate dining rooms also make Wastlwirt a popular choice for birthdays, family celebrations, weddings and corporate events. A genuine Salzburg inn where Austrian culinary tradition meets fresh ideas and warm hospitality.

🍽️ My Favourite Dish
Beef Tartare from Locally Sourced Beef
"My personal favourite at Wastlwirt is the Beef Tartare made with locally sourced beef. Finely chopped beef is served with creamy egg yolk, tangy mustard caviar and pickled onions for a refreshing touch of acidity, accompanied by butter and crispy white bread. For me, a beautifully balanced beef tartare with exciting contrasts in flavour that still lets the quality of the beef shine through!"
